Doctor Who 2048

Same Time Lord, a new face with every merge. This fan puzzle follows the First through Thirteenth Doctors, pairing the classic 4 × 4 board with portraits from Doctor Who’s official character archive.

This edition uses 13 numbered Doctors as its collection. It does not include every incarnation or later numbered Doctor; the tile values describe the puzzle’s progression.

How to play Doctor Who 2048

Press arrow keys or WASD on a computer, or swipe across the board on your phone. All portraits slide together. Two matching Doctors merge into the next incarnation: two First Doctors (2) create the Second Doctor (4), and two Second Doctors create the Third (8).

Each successful move adds a First or Second Doctor tile. A newly merged tile cannot merge again until your next move. Reach the Eleventh Doctor at 2048 to win, then choose Keep playing to discover the Twelfth (4096) and Thirteenth (8192).

The round ends when the board has no empty squares and no neighboring matching portraits. A full board can still be played if a merge is available.

Tips for your next regeneration

Keep your latest Doctor in a corner

Build toward one corner and keep your biggest tile there. Arrange smaller values along the same edge to help matching portraits meet without disrupting your setup.

Leave space for the next arrival

Check where every portrait will land before swiping. A move that frees a square and lines up another pair gives you more options on the next turn.

Recognize the next face

Use the collection to learn the sequence. You only merge identical portraits, and each pair advances one numbered Doctor. Avoid chasing a small merge if it strands your larger tiles.

Your score and discoveries

Each merge adds the new tile’s value to your score. Moves counts slides that change the board. Your board, best score, and collection are saved automatically in this browser, independently of the other themes.

Bright collection cards show Doctors reached this round; faded cards show discoveries from earlier rounds. New Game resets the round while keeping your best score and collection. Clearing browser site data removes local progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I win Doctor Who 2048?

Merge two Tenth Doctor tiles (1024 each) to create the Eleventh Doctor at 2048. Keep playing afterwards to collect the Twelfth and Thirteenth Doctors.

Which Doctors are included?

This edition includes the First through Thirteenth numbered Doctors, from William Hartnell to Jodie Whittaker. It is a selected 13-tile game progression, not a complete list of every incarnation.

What is the final tile?

The Thirteenth Doctor is the last illustrated tile at 8192. Higher merges reuse that portrait with a number badge.

Can I play on mobile?

Yes. Swipe up, down, left, or right across the board on a phone or tablet. Desktop players can use arrow keys or WASD.

Will my game survive a refresh?

Yes. Return in the same browser to resume the round. Saves do not sync between devices; clearing site data or ending a private browsing session may remove them.

Is this an official Doctor Who game?

No. This is a free, unofficial fan puzzle. Doctor Who and its character imagery belong to the BBC. No download or account is required.
